8th ANNUAL INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF LOS ANGELES (IFFLA) 2010

  • ArcLight CINEMA COMPLEX AT Hollywood WILL BE THE VENUE.
  • Festival to showcase 33 films from 5 countries, including 4 world premieres and 7 US premieres.

This is a celebration of the art and business of Indian film and culture as well as an opportunity to connect with the game changers and emerging filmmakers of Indian themed content. Audience, Delegates and Industry professionals will experience a wide ranging program which includes thought-provoking dramas, engaging documentaries, along with a touch of light hearted fare and a taste of Bollywood.

Kicking off the festival

Opening film will be debutant director (also brother of the Internationally acclaimed film maker Deepa Mehta) Dilip Mehta’s film “COOKING WITH STELLA” (starring Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray, and Don McKellar) with a RED CARPET welcome for all.

This will be followed by Opening Night Gala attendees for a sumptuous Indian buffet and apetising aromatic cocktails. The Gala will be hosted by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) with support from the Canadian Consulate of Los Angeles and Telefilm Canada as a benefit for the Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research in Beverly Hills.

Bollywood By Night

Will showcase screenings of Bollywood blockbuster films 3 IDIOTS and KAMINEY. This will also include the newly re-mastered print of ASHES TO ASHES (RAAKH), the film that had launched several high-profile careers including Bollywood favorite Aamir Khan. These movies can be enjoyed while sipping a glass of wine or your favorite cocktail.

IFFLA’S LAUDABLE INITIATIVE

IFFLA’s dedication to supporting the creation of content is exemplified in the launch of the IFFLA Film Fund that helps emerging filmmakers realize their feature-length film projects. The first such Grant of $10,000, is awarded this year to Krani Kanade for his script AGAINST ITSELF. Kanade will hold a stage reading of his script that is open to the public at ArcLight Hollywood on Sunday, April 25.

Closing Film

The festival comes to a close with another Gala event featuring the Australian production “THE WAITING CITY” directed by Claire McCarthy and starring Radha Mitchell, Joel Edgerton and Samrat Chakrabarti. McCarthy, Mitchell, and Chakrabarti will be in attendance.

The reception will be followed by a grand soiree, sponsored by Chakra Cuisine and Divya Wines who will provide delectable foods and unique wines..

IFFLA 2010 Industry Leadership Award Winners

The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles will honor the achievements of the executives who have shattered boundaries to facilitate its success at the third annual IFFLA Industry Leadership Awards taking place Thursday, April 22 at the House of Blues Los Angeles. Sharing the 2010 Industry Leadership Award are Sanford Panitch and Uday Shankar. Ashok Amritraj will receive IFFLA’s Industry Trailblazer Award.

Sanford Panitch currently serves as the President of Fox International Productions, which has recently released MY NAME IS KHAN, one of the highest grossing Bollywood films of all time. He has supervised over 75 feature film productions including THE FUGITIVE, OFFICE SPACE and MR. AND MRS. SMITH.

Uday Shankar, CEO of STAR India, has led the company’s transformation from a leading broadcaster to an integrated media company with a significant presence in regional broadcasting, film production, cable, DTH and home shopping.

Ashok Amritraj, CEO of Hyde Park Entertainment, has worked with every major film studio and has produced box office hits such as BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE, WALKING TALL and PREMONITION. This year, Amritraj celebrates the production of the landmark 100th film of his career.

Sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Reliance MediaWorks, the event will feature keynote speaker, Anil Arjun, CEO of Reliance MediaWorks, and performances by TAAL Dance Collective specialized in Indian Classsical dance.

FELICITATION OF 21 SOUTH ASIAN WOMEN

21 MOST Influential Women Executives carefully selected and researched by Korn / Ferry International Of USA will also be felicitated on this occasion for their stellar contribution in the field of Media and Entertainment Industry in South Asia. Prominent names like Jhumpa Lahiri, Ekta Kapoor, Zarina Mehta, Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta and Indu Jain (Chairperson of Times Group) are in the list.
