This MFF is divided into eight sections: International Competition for the First Feature Films of Directors, World Cinema, Indian Frame, Dimensions Mumbai, Celebrate Age, Retrospectives, Above the Cut and New Faces in Indian Cinema.

The International Competition aims at discovering and honoring new talents in the field of direction and providing them networking possibilities. World Cinema focuses on screening the best films from all over the world produced within one calendar year before the festival dates. This section is meant to be a Festival of Festival films, the award winning and critically acclaimed films screened in other International Film Festivals. This section is an indicator of the latest trends in film making around the globe. Indian Frame, is meant to be a show window for the best Indian films targetting the foreign delegates.

Dimensions Mumbai is to tease, target and provide a forum to the young creative minds in the city of Mumbai to come up with the best film on any aspect of this metropolis in any format of their choice by the students and young media professionals under 25 years of age. can submit films for this competition section. Harmony Silver Awards 2010 is proud to introduce a brand new Competition Section as part of the 12th Mumbai Film Festival. “Celebrate Age” will showcase ad-films, short fiction films, documentaries and feature length films on the concerns, spice, fun and adventure of growing older.The Retrospectives section presents the treasures from the past. Above The Cut is a non-competitive section which presents the First Feature Films of Directors which could not be accommodated in the in the International Competition but otherwise their films are good.

Unique all-woman Jury for the fest

This is an unprecedented power roster move of having an all-women jury for 12th MFF.

Jane Campion, Academy Award winner, Hollywood-based filmmaker, screen writer and producer will be the President of the Jury. Other Jury Women are four Internationally- celebrated panelists, each eminent in their own right: Tanya Seghatchian, (UK) Samira Makhmalbaf (Iran) Jeong-Hee (South Korea) and Suhasini Maniratnam (India)

The eminence and accomplishments of the jury of MAMI’s Festival is an indication of all that this great platform for the best of world cinema is set to offer.

Another Unique Feature – Mumbai Young Critics

In order to generate a future crop of competent film critics; this feature is introduced. Objective is to expose the young minds to aesthetic standards of film criticism and appreciation. 32 college students will be selected for Mumbai Young Critics to form a student jury. The selected students shall avail the opportunity to watch all films screened during the festival, interact with celebrity guests, and participate in the press conferences, seminars and master classes. Their reviews shall be published in the festival daily bulletin and other festival publications. Besides, a best young critic will be awarded “Mumbai Young Critics Award” consisting of a Silver Gateway and a certlificate.

MAMI’s 12th MFF gives a brand new dimension to aspiring Directors.

MAMI, chaired by Mr. Shyam Benegal is inviting short films to compete in ‘Dimensions Mumbai’, one of the new highlights of this year’s Mumbai film festival. It is an immensely popular short film competition open to young Mumbaikars below the age of 25 years, which invites films of up to five minutes duration on the theme of ‘Mumbai, The Metropolis’. Dimensions Mumbai aims at exploring new creative talent among young media professionals and students by providing an opportunity to showcase their work in the process of capturing the buoyancy and variety of life in any digital format, including their Mobile phones. The selected films will also get screened at the festival. Two best creations will get award of a “SILVER GATEAWAY TROPHY” and a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 50000 respectively.
