INDIAN  CINEMA CREATED HISTORY  AT 77 TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Payal Kapadia, a FTII Pune diploma holder scripted history by becoming the first Indian  film maker to win GRAND PRIX, the second highest award at the prestigious and world’s top  77 th International Film Festival Cannes for her debut narrative feature “All We Imagine As Light” .It was amongst 22 films competing for the for the Palme d’Or, the top award

The film has created momentum by becoming the first Indian film in over 30 years to be selected in the Main Competition section, making Payal also the first  female Indian film maker ever to be selected in the Cannes competition.

Earlier in 2021,Payal Kapadia’s acclaimed feature doc “A Night of Knowing Nothing” was premiered at Cannes  Festival’s side bar Directors’ Fortnight” and had won the Oield’Or ( Golden Eye) award for the best documentary film . Payal’s FTII diploma film “Afternoon Couds” was also part of the Cine Foundation section  in the 2017 of the Cannes Film Festival

“All We Imagine As Light” is Malayam=Hindi feature starring Kani Kusruti,Divya Prabha,Chaya Kadam ,Hridhu Haroon and Azess Nedumangad. It weaves a  she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boy friend. A trip to beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.

The film is an Indo-French co-production between  between Petit Chaos ( Thomas Hakim and Julien Graff Producers)from France and Chalk and Cheese Films from India –producers Zico Maitra and Ranbir Das.
