Rajiv Gandhi Awards is a premium platform that honors successful Indians globally for their outstanding contribution. These awards were instituted in 1995 for diverse fields such as Industry, Sports, Education, Entertainment, Journalism etc. These awards commemorate the memory of a visionary Prime Minister of India and of a person with an endearing personality and admirable ideals. 11th Annual Rajiv Gandhi Awards function was held in pomp and style on Aug 17, at the sprawling J Bhabha auditorim, NCPA Mumbai. it was well organized and media coordination was to the hilt.. Like previous years, the event proceedings this year too, reached to millions throughout the world through Sony TV, S Max & SAB TV.

Variety entertainment interspersed between the awards and the compering by host duo Sajid Khan and Tisca Chopra who kept alive the tempo of entertainment with their choice punches.

The event was witnessed and saw participation of political leaders like the Chief Minister of Maharashtra V Deshmukh, Rajiv Shukla MP and AICC co-ordinator, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, Mumbai Congress Committee Chief Kripa Shankar Singh, whose news of appointment was given by Rajiv Shukla, and the Convenor of the MLC. Highlight was none of the dignitaries or award winners bored us by giving long speeches.

LIVE PERFORMANCES

In the live performance, by dishing out a chorus dance number, glamour gal Kareena Kapoor scored a point when she danced on the tunes of the most befitting song “Ye Mera Dil Pyar Ka Deewana” while gesticulating at the lover Saif Ali Khan, Who was ensconced in the auditorium along with other award winners. Salmankhan too, danced on two songs and refused to continue for more on audience demand. Thanks God, he only removed his jacket in the act and not his T shirt. Although Rakhi Sawant, against her public image by dancing in full classical uniform, her accompanist female dancers displayed cleavage and bare thighs. Music Maestros Shankar Ahsaan Loy regaled the gathering with their melodies. The show stealer was, however, funster Navin Prabhakar who was full with satire and humour even for the dignatories present.

AWARD WINNERS

The awardees from show world were :

Best Actor-Saif Ali Khan, Best Actress-Lara Dutta, Child Prodigy - actor Darsheel Safary (Tare Zameen Par fame) who was also good in stage repartee with Host Tisca Chopra who was her screen mother in his debut film.

Super Achiever -Dalip Singh Rana (The Great Khali—who was absent due to his International commitment). Global Indian bhangra artiste-singer Malkit Singh (UK) who as recently honured by the Britain’s Queen with MBE ; For Innovative Marketing -Mehul Choksi, Outstanding work in Social Field -Anna Hazare, For Sports – Footballer and activist, Baichung Bhutia, Educationist - Sunny Varkey, Young Enterpreuner - Sameer Gehlaut, Women Achiever - Vandana Luthra, Industrialist - Baba Kalyani, and for Journalism - Vir Sanghvi (Group Editor—Hindustan Times)

It was rewarding one hundred and fifty minutes of non-stop extravaganza.
